Conjunto: TexMex & Cumbia
Miguel and Susan will demonstrate, cumbias, rancheras, valses, boleros, and chachas for vocals, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, button accordion, guitarrón and trumpet. Lyric sheets with chords and some notated melodies in concert pitch will be provided. All instruments welcome.

About Miguel Govea
Miguel Govea is a multi-instrumentalist with a 40-year career in San Francisco. He records and performs vocals, trumpet, button accordion, mandolin, fiddle and bass, with an emphasis on the music of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. He has taught students of all ages at the San Francisco Community Music Center, San Francisco Unified School District, SFJAZZ Center’s Education Programs, Centrum’s Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, Centrum’s VoiceWorks, and Freight & Salvage’s FiddleKids Camp.

About Susan Peña
Susan sings and plays guitar and fiddle. With husband, Miguel Govea, and their daughters, they perform as La Familia Peña-Govea at venues as varied as Davies Symphony Hall, San Quentin Prison, classrooms, libraries, festivals, weddings, hospital wards and backyard barbecues. The family has taught regularly at Lark Camp for the last two decades, delving into Mexican and TexMex/Norteño style boleros, rancheras, waltzes, and corridos, as well as Columbian vallenatos and cumbias, with a sprinkling of American country mixed in.
