Cumbias y Más for Guitar & Voice
Susan Peña will present, on guitar and voice, a variety of songs from the Mexican tradition, including boleros, waltzes, rancheras, corridos, cumbias, and polkas. She will demonstrate guitar rhythms and chord progressions that distinguish each one, and provide lyrics with English translations, and help with phrasing and pronunciation as needed.

About Susan Peña
Susan sings and plays guitar and fiddle. With husband, Miguel Govea, and their daughters, they perform as La Familia Peña-Govea at venues as varied as Davies Symphony Hall, San Quentin Prison, classrooms, libraries, festivals, weddings, hospital wards and backyard barbecues. The family has taught regularly at Lark Camp for the last two decades, delving into Mexican and TexMex/Norteño style boleros, rancheras, waltzes, and corridos, as well as Columbian vallenatos and cumbias, with a sprinkling of American country mixed in.
