Mandolin
Mixed Genre

This workshop is most appropriate for beginning to intermediate mandolin players. We will focus on producing a pleasing tone, while remaining relaxed, and, most importantly, having FUN. We will also look at the “care and feeding” of the mandolin, and touch a bit upon the history of the mandolin. People don’t remember how many notes you played; they remember if they sounded good, and if there was authentic feeling behind the notes. Workshop topics will also include: right hand techniques, left hand techniques, chords, strum patterns, simple songs, and soloing.

About Booi Volk

Booi has been playing and performing on mandolin for more than 30 years, and over that time he has immersed himself in many styles of music, including Bluegrass, Swing, and Choro. His mandolin studies have taken him all over the world, from playing with a mandolin orchestra in Italy to late night Choro jams in Rio De Janeiro. He can be found performing with his groups including Foxglove and Corca Baiscinn.
