Turkish Romany Dance
Turkish Roman(i) Dance is an expressive, freestyle folk dance that involves foot work, hand gestures and belly work. This dance is mainly found in the Northwestern region of Turkey, especially Trakya (Thrace), and the music is often 9 beats per measure. This class is a culmination of knowledge gathered through Elizabeth’s intensive studies with the Roman people of Turkey. Her unique teaching method will show you how to approach the dance from a technical, cultural and rhythmic angle.

Elizabeth Strong is a Los Angeles based dancer, choreographer, and teacher who specializes in Belly Dance and adores Greek and Balkan folk dances. Elizabeth has traveled to Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, Morocco, Greece and Bulgaria to study closely at the source. She performs with live music groups including Trio Dancho, Kugelplex, Inspector Gadje, Axon Orkestra and renowned world musicians including Faisal Zeidan and Rumen Sali Shopov.
