Come learn some standard bluegrass fiddle repertoire! We’ll learn tunes, work on translating vocal melodies onto the fiddle, and explore the stylistic elements that make a fiddler sound like a bluegrass fiddler. Other topics could include how to play around a vocalist (aka fills), twin fiddling, licks, jam etiquette, and the role of the fiddler in a bluegrass band. You'll get the most out of this class if you have at least some facility on the instrument, I won't be teaching ground-up fiddle basics.

About Leah Wollenberg

Leah Wollenberg started playing fiddle when she was 6 years old, and has never looked back. In her years of playing, she’s explored a range of fiddle styles from North America and Northern Europe, and brought her fiddle to jazz programs at Berkeley High School and Oberlin Conservatory. She realized she loved singing when she had to (temporarily) put the fiddle down because of an injury, and found that a lifetime of listening to bluegrass had given her the foundation to sing the harmonies and melodies she loved. Nowadays you can find her playing and singing bluegrass, Irish music, and more around the Bay Area and along West Coast, teaching fiddle at Manning Music in Berkeley, and throwing down vocal harmonies with her musical hero Laurie Lewis.
