In this workshop, the main goal will be singing from the repertoire of swing and jazz standards of the 1920’s-50’s in a relaxed and welcoming environment (lyrics and music provided). We’ll discuss different choices you can make as a singer to interpret a song in this style (aka. a standard) using rhythm, vocal technique and swing feel. We’ll also touch on tools that can help in real-life singing situations, such as tips for singing with a mic, and how to communicate smoothly and effectively with a band/accompaniment.

Attendees of this class will have the optional opportunity to perform a song at the Thursday Night Swing Dance in Camp 1. We’ll have guitar accompaniment from Scott Stobbe and each class will start with a short vocal warm-up and then we’ll get right in to singing! All levels welcome.
