Larry Klein
Larry began playing guitar at the age of seven, later performing and recording rock music on several albums for both Voxx and Epitaph Records. He was introduced to the oud and makam at Lark Camp in 1997 through classes with David Brown and Ernie Fischbach, and soon expanded into studying North African Andaluse music with Maestro Omar Ait-Vimoun. Shortly after, he developed an interest in the intricacies of Turkish music and the makam system. He studied oud with Masters Necati Çelik and Sinan Erdemsel, and lived in Turkey for over fifteen years, gaining a deep understanding of the cultural and musical traditions of the region. Through his love of music, Larry also developed a strong interest in foreign languages - he speaks fluent Turkish and Farsi, and continues to study the Kurmanji dialect of Kurdish.
